History:

The 12 Steps Club was founded in 1942 as a Sober Social Club where people in various levels of recovery could congregate and fellowship in a safe, alcohol and drug free environment. Originally based on Orange Street in New Haven, CT, The 12 Steps Club has moved to various locations in the New Haven, CT area and is presently located at the First Lutheran Church, Side Entrance, Lower Level, 52 George Street in West Haven, CT.

Over the course of the last eighty (80) years, The Club has provided a safe haven for those with addiction to alcohol and drugs who are trying to achieve and maintain a life without alcohol and drugs. Meetings are hosted at The 12 Steps Club on a daily basis and have formed the foundation for a sober life style for thousands of those afflicted with the disease of addiction.

Current operation and Mission Statement

The Twelve Steps Club exists for the purpose of providing a safe, alcohol and drug-free environment for those seeking to build better lives for themselves and their families and to escape the ravages of addiction. The Club is also a place where support and fellowship are key to the very survival of many addicted persons, men and women.

The Club is a social organization with an emphasis on fellowship where recovery is the main theme. Those who have maintained long term sobriety (and ‘clean time’) assist those who are newly entered into this new way of life; a life without alcohol and drugs. We provide much needed support to everyone associated with The Club, either through meetings or through community outreach. Because of our present location, approximately one (1) mile from the Veterans Administration Hospital in West Haven, we have welcomed many veterans from the VA to The Club and many attend regular meetings and events.

The Club also sponsors sober social events, (holiday parties, dances, game nights, etc. to enhance the lives of the members and non-members alike who choose to participate in Club activities. The Club enables people to become active participants in their own lives.

With the current addiction crisis faced by our State and the nation, the viability of The  12 Steps Club is more important than ever.

To many in the Greater New Haven area, The Club represents “the last house on the block”. We urge those in recovery to visit the Club and to become involved in our efforts to carry the message to those alcoholics and addicts who still suffer.
